About the Artist
|
Phil Taylor was born in Evansville, Indiana in 1962 and moved to Fort Worth, Texas with his parents and two siblings in the Summer of 1963. His ability to draw and paint was recognized at an early age and after completing high school he began working with visual artist Brad Smith of Burleson, Texas, graduate of The Art Institute of Chicago. During this apprenticeship Phil learned large scale mural execution, graphic design and portraiture. Along with Brad Smith, his other influences include graphic artists Patrick Nagel and Dennis Mukai. This combination of influences and self development ultimately resulted in Phil's unique style of black and white tones using acrylic, pastel and pencil on canvas. Some of his portraits include musicians Stevie Ray Vaughan, Michael Hutchence and Keith Urban, with commissioned works including PGA Golf Champion Nick Price, actress Janine Turner, and musician Larry Gatlin. Currently Phil works and resides in Frisco, Texas with his wife of 20 years and their three daughters.
